VERY serious health warning about Robitussin.....
I just saw on GMA that Robitussin contains
Ephedra which was determined by the FDA to cause
hemoragic bleeding which can result in death.
Robitussin was just one of a number of over the counter
drugs they mentioned as containing Ephedra.
They did not say if deaths were related to taking Robitussin,
but deaths have been reported from Ephedra in diet pills and herbal
supplements. I know many women take daily doses of Robitussin
to thin out CM which obviously ups your chances of problems
more than the occasional cold user.
They recommended throwing away any products you have containing Ephedra.
I'm sure the complete list is available on their website.
Just want you all to stay safe!

Dear Momma Kath,
I just heard about the FDA attempting to remove all products containing
PPA(phenylpropanolamine) off the shelves. They say that PPA can be found
in prescription and OTC products such as Robitussin. When I heard about
this I immediately thought of your website. The FDA says that PPA is now
linked to strokes in women. Please check out the FDA's website at
link to FDA
I thought I would pass this on to you because if there is any way
this could happen, the ladies who use your site (like myself)
need to be aware that Robitussin should be stopped immediately.
Sincerely,
Michelle Moe

Momma Kath--
After hearing about the recent recall of the drug PPA and the connection with Robitussin.
I just talked with pharmacist at the FDA
named Barbara about the ingredients in Robitussin.
The Robitussin that I was instructed to take with Clomid is Robitussin...
no letters after the name. This particular product
DOES NOT contain the PPA ingredient.
However, some of the other types of Robitussin do contain PPA.
Barbara said that the plain Robitussin has the guaifenesin
and that is strictly a mucus liquifying ingredient.
PPA on the other hand is a decongestant.
I was worried that I had taken Robitussin now that I am pregnant
and for a long period before getting pregnant and was assured
that by taking the plain Robitussin I'm still in the safe zone.
Just wanted to share this with you as I'm sure that many of the TTC site
visitors have the same concerns that I had as well.
Thanks for the wonderful site to share such valuable information.

Subject: URGENT..... RECALL
Date: Fri, 9 Feb 2001 12:33:56 -0600
You may already know about this, but the drug list
is good. Please go through your medicine cabinet
and remove these drugs.
Dear friends, clients and colleagues:
For several years now I have been warning the public about
phenylpropanolamine and its tendency to cause
capillary fragility leading to
many different ailments depending on where the blood
vessels burst. I first
noticed this pharmaceutical as Dexatrim as it is one
of the trade names being used by vet's to treat urinary incontinence in
dogs. The warning labels always caution you to contact your
veterinarian if your pet experienced seizures. Big tip off!
After many years the FDA is taking (very quiet) steps
to remove this drug from the GRAS list.
The original article giving
notice to the FDA:
FDA
RX List
All drugs containing Phenylpropanolamine are being recalled.
I also happened to be at Osco Pharmacy and they have a sign
stating that all drugs containing Phenylpropanolamine have
been pulled from their shelves. You may want to try calling
the 800 number listed on most drug boxes and inquire
about a refund. Please read this carefully, as I
know that some of you use some of these drugs (Alka Seltzer Plus for one).
Also, please pass this on to everyone you know.
Stop taking anything
containing this ingredient. It has been linked to
increased hemorrhagic stroke (bleeding in brain) among women ages 18-49
in the three days after starting use of medication. Problems were not
found in men, but the FDA recommended that everyone (children) seek
alternative medicine. The following medicine contain phenylpropanolamine:
