• Always keep a fire extinguisher handy, and change your smoke alarm battery 2 times per year.
• Keep small objects and toys with small parts away from children under 3. Check the label on toy packages for the age appropriateness before giving them to your child.
• Never cook with a child playing under your feet. Make sure you use the back burners whenever possible and turn the pot handles in towards the center of the stove so your toddler cannot reach up and grab them.
• Don't place furniture near open windows for children to climb on, and place window locks or guards on windows to help prevent children from falling through.
• Retract all window blind cords throughout the house, as they are a strangulation hazard.
• Common choking sources include latex balloons, peanuts, hot dogs, popcorn, and grapes.

• crib can test (if you can put a soda can through the slats it's too wide)
• collapsible play pens can collapse on baby, get the hard to put together kind
• outlet covers that slide so you can use them but baby can't
• mounted baby gates (not the kind you can take down)
• mount top heavey dressers or bookshelves to wall
• put wires and cords in a cord cover
• door stoppers - baby can choke on the rubber ends, get the one piece kind.
